AZ Immigration Law
Friday, May 14th, 2010I’ve finally gotten around to reading Arizona’s new immigration law. It’s nowhere near as bad as it first was, since penalties have been reduced and “lawful contact” has been replaced with “lawful stop, detention, or arrest.”
Unfortunately, it’s now ridiculous:
“A law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may not consider race, color or national origin in implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution.”
Really? You can’t consider national origin in trying to determine who is in this country illegally? I look forward to the appeals on this one.
